Now, does this woman deserve the Nobel Peace Prize? Sure, why not? Is she a great human being with her heart in the right place? Absolultely. Did Al Gore deserve the Nobel Peace Prize? Sure, why not? Is he a great human being with his heart in the right place? Absolutely. Did Irena Sendler deserve to win over Al Gore? I dont know. What I do know is that Al Gore’s movie was not about a slide show. Al Gore’s movie was a slide show presentation of a serious problem. Al Gore has raised some valid concerns about climate change and is trying to save the human race. Glenn Beck labeling his movie as being about ‘a slide show’ is politicizing an issue that should not be political. Glenn Beck is nothing but an instigator. I loathe people like him. I dont know the criteria for the Nobel Peace Prize or the dynamics of the contest but I do know one thing, I hate arguements based on conjecture.

The Nobel Peace Prize is a farce. When the likes of Valadimir Puttin and Yassar Arafat are winners all credability is gone. Irene Sendler is far more deserving than Al Gore in spite of Glenn Beck! Scientists disagree on Global Warming – so do I.
Are you saying you deny global warming?
I’m saying that scientists don’t all agree on this issue of Global Warming. Conflicting tests of ground temperatures at both poles have actually shown colder results. I agree that we need to take measures to clean the air we breathe and I trust in American ingenuity and entrepaneurship. Climate temperatures are cyclytal and the earth is a closed ecosystem – what is here stays here – it just moves around. You just got to be careful who you believe. I have read where some critics have shown holes, mistruths, and mistakes in the information presented by Al Gore. I’m still sorting out the information. Nothing is simple as much as I wish it were.
Granted that the earth goes through cycles of warming and cooling but there is irrefutable evidence that urban areas are hotter than rural areas due to increased pollution. The changes that Al Gore suggest would certainly help that. In addition, say for the sake of argument that global warming is a farce, is it really such a bad thing to conserve more and develop alternative energy?
I totally agree with conservation and alternative energy. I agree with cleaning the air. I just have a problem with doomsayers scaring the public for political gain.
Me to, for example, I hate it when some idiot politician tells me I cannot take a computer on a train because it might hide a bomb.
You have not mentioned any interest in conservation in the past. In fact, you have mentioned that you feel you should be able to drive around as much as you want.
I agree with you about taking a computer on atrain. These are scary times we live in!
I have always beeen interested in conservation. It may seem like it but you and I haven’t touched on all the topics yet. I think everyone should be interested in preserving a clean environment. I think we should keep the air as clean as possile. I believe in recycling – I have even participated in recycling efforts from time to time. I have even signed up for the City of Salina Recycling Program (curb side pick up of recyclable materials). I believe in growing more trees than are cut down and certainly replacing those that are destroyed. I believe that green areas should be planned in any development areas.
I believe that we should be rapidly developing alternatives to foreign oil such as clean coal, wind energy, solar energy, nucleaor energy…and any other clean forms yet to be developed. I also encourage people to rely upon other means of getting around, such as the good old two feet (it would make us healthier).
But, in the mean time, for the sake of the economy and for the sake of national defense, I think we should stop buying foreign oil and rely on our own ability to provide oil for the finerys while stocking up even more reserves than we have. We can even sell more of our oil to other countries. I also shink we should be repaid by Iraq in oil and not curency for our saving their asses.
What I don’t believe is that the American citizen should have to alter there lifestyle due to the oil situation. I think Americans should be able to drive whereever they want and as often as they want. I don’t think our quality of life should suffer because of other countries holding oil over our heads and our greedy politicians. I dont think the government should dictate my driving habits as far as where and how much. The government shloud only provide a safe highay system for all citizens to get around safely.
I think the government should also get out of the way of developing new technologies with their taxes and regulations.
I think the free market should be allowed to flurish. This can be done by eliminating all current tax systems and establishing the Fair Tax in the USA.
By establishing the Fair tax, businesses would flurish and outsourcing would be a thing of the past. Everyone would have more spending power. The Fair Tax is the only way all citizens are taxed equally and fairly. Other countries have similar systems and they have worked.
I invite your response to any part or all of the above.
I dont think you understand my comment about the computer. What I was trying to communicate is that I hate it when the government tries to scare people by telling them that a terrorist may hide a bomb in a computer and I am the one inconvenienced by having my computer searched.
Let me get this straight, in Salina you have to VOLUNTARILY sign up for recycling? In Salt Lake City, its mandatory. You can even be fined for throwing out recyclable material out with the garbage.
I agree with you that we need to put more monies toward energy. However, it will costs hundreds of millions to sink new wells and build more pipelines and refineries. Why dont we instead use that money to build hydrogen fuel stations and geothermal power plants?
The American lifestyle is responsible for the current oil situation. Now that we have identified the problem (not enough oil and increased pollution) I think it is only suitable that we take steps to lessen the impact. We should take responsibility and stewardship of our planet.
I totally knew what you meant about your computer. I don’t think the government is trying to scare anyone…the government is just trying to keep everyone safe. This is their job – National Defense. Terrorists are in this country.
I would rather live somewhere where recycling is voluntary and not another regulation where fines are imposed (Orwell’s “Big Brother”. To me that is more of a government intrusion into my personal life than having my compuer checked before I get on a train.
Sinking more wells and pumping more oil will create more jobs and generate more tax money for the economy while others find alternatives. I’m all for hydrogen fuel stations and geothermal power plants. If these can power my automobile let us get it on. Let’s get the technology such that adequate fuel for cars is produced. Can you tell me why these energy sources haven’t been more widely used? Is it because it’s cheaper to produce gas?
I believe in being a good stewart of our planet. I also think that with improved evironmentaly efficient cars and a push to develop alternatve energy sources we can become friendly with the planet. But right now we need to produce cheaper gasoline and kickstart our economy. We need to stop our dependence on oil from countries that do not like us.
Do you not understand that the government can keep telling you that they need more security and that by doing it they can take away more and more of your rights? Why cant local cops patrol our trains? Granted, our trains frequently have over 2000 people on them but local cops know the area, know the people and are just as qualified to keep the peace. I dont like that we have become a police state.
How is mandatory recycling different from standard garbage service? You will be fined for throwing your garbage out on the street, the city provides you a trash can for that. How is that different from the city providing a recycle can?
Alternate energy hasn’t been developed because the car companies are in league with the oil companies. I cannot bring myself to believe this is not true when my company van has a stupid little sticker on the gas cap saying, “Ford recommends BP Gasoline.”
Let’s just say that I see transportation centers in large metropolitan areas as potential threats. I don’t want a police state either. Local cops with jurisdictional constraints aren’t equipped to cover areas served by the trains. The USA would be foolish not to take the possibility of terrorist strikes in this country seriously.
I’m not sure what your point is in regard to recycling. I think we agree on this.
In regard to the car and oil companies being in league with with other you’re absolutely right. What we need is a government official that will take the tough stance and fight to break up these alliances. Isn’t this what Sarah Palin is suppose to be good at? What we need to decide is will McCain and Palin or Obama and Biden do this and which pair can do it best.
Our transportation authority has its own police force. They are well equiped and funded and yet still take a back door to the feds. I do agree with you that major transporation centers are a target but again, our transit cops are state POST certified and can enforce the law in all 6 counties they have service.
You made the point that it is government intrusion to fine you for not recycling. I countered your point by pointing out that it is no different from basic trash service.
Sarah Palin will talk tough on the oil companies when the cameras are pointing at her but when no one else is around they get their way.
Sinking more wells and pumping more oil will create more jobs and generate more tax money for the economy while others find alternatives.
Until that oil runs out or we realize that — whoops — there wasn’t as much as we thought. It’s a short term fix, whereas investing money now into alternate technologies (I’m a big proponent of wind and solar) can not only lead to clean energy but also to jobs that aren’t dependent on finite resources. Because if the sun stops shining we’ve got way bigger problems than jobs and money.
Again, there seems to always be two sides to every concern. My information is that there is enough oil to last for generations to come.
Show me a plan for quick solutions involving alernate sources of energy and I will get on the Band Wagon. I’m rather fond of wind energy – Kansas is putting up wind mills like crazy. I’m just saying that as long as we require oil for energy, let’s provide our own.
Now that we are moving troops from Iraq to Pakistan and the war in Iraq is dwindllng down maybe we can focus on those that want to kill us on our turf.
I still don’t see your point about recycling and trash pick up.
History will tell us the truth about Sarah Palin. Providing, of course, McCain gets elected.
Of course there is oil to last for generations. But its not all in one place. We can drill now but when we exhaust that supply we are just going to have to drill somewhere else. That seems awfully expensive.
Senator Obama gave a speech where he said that if all new vehicles were hybrids by 2010 then we could supply all our own oil with current domestic supplies. Granted, I dont know where he got his numbers and I havent researched it but it seems plausible.
Ok, let me try to spell this out, again. You said that mandatory recycling is a intrusion. I pointed out that mandatory recycling is no different from mandatory trash service. You will be fined if you throw a McDonalds bag on the street instead of in the trash. That is no different than being fined for throwing a milk carton in the trash as opposed to the recycle bin.
History has already told the truth about Sarah Palin. I find it curious that you have not commented on her lies that I have pointed out to you.
Throwing something on the street is littering whether it be ordinary trash or something recyclable. Thowing something recyclable in the trash and being fined for it is something else. I kind of think recycling is good but I have read that recycling efforts are more costly and damaging to the environment. Again it is who you choose to believe. I have tried to limit the number of plastic bottles I use and use glass instead. I buy groceries in paper bags and reuse the bags. I mulch my lawn, etc.
History is as you read it and interpret it. Recorded hitory comes from the viewpoint of the author. I have read a great deal and have listened to a number of interviews about Sarah Palin. I have also prepared a lengthy discertation in regard to Sarah Palin and have attempted to post it on my Blog. But, being computer illiterate I have been unable to get it published. I think I even lost what I wrote when I tried to save it. When I have time to get technology figured out you will be able to raed what I have written. I would be interested in hearing from you what lies Sarah has told and what your proof is that she has lied. And, I know that your opinion will be based on fact and not conjecture.
I both disagree with you and agree with you on recycling. The city provides you a proper place for you Wendy’s bag so how is that different from providing you a proper place for a cardboard box? Regarding aluminum cans, I have heard that melting them down releases more carbon emissions than to mine new aluminum. However, take plastic bottles. Do you know what they are made into? They grind them up into little pieces and use them as filler for sleeping bags. I have one in my closet right now. Take cardboard, the city reuses cardboard that is recycled in its own warehouses. Those boxes that are unusable are made into pulp for new cardboard.
I posted several cases of lies Sarah Palin has made. You can verify them on several sources including YouTube, CNN, Factcheck.org and several others.
I’m seeing information on both sides of the ledger for Obama and Palin. It comes down to who you believe and how good you assess human behavior.
When Sarah Palin repeatedly says, “I told Congress ‘No thank you’ on that Bridge to Nowhere”, I asses her behavior as being a liar. She wanted the bridge, this is not a contested political issue, its a fact.
